How Does HCG Work, Anyway?

Just How Does HCG Weight Loss Work, Anyway?

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone present only in pregnant humans. The role of HCG in pregnancy has two main purposes. One is monitoring fetal nutrition. An undernourished “mother to be” requires HCG to stimulate the release of fat from her fat stores. This maternal fat (which also contains other hormones, vitamins and protein) provides nourishment for the fetus, regardless of the nutritional health of the mother. The other main purpose of HCG is to enhance the elasticity of the mother’s skin. This allows for adaptation to the changing size and shape during and after pregnancy.

HCG, used properly under the direct care of an experienced physician, fools the patient’s brain into thinking that the patient is pregnant–yes, even men. In fact, HCG weight loss works twice as fast in men. This important fact has been omitted in media presentations to date. So when the patient reduces caloric intake to the level the brain considers insufficient, the brain releases fat stores into the blood stream to nourish the fetus. But, since the patient is not really pregnant, and because the patient is not getting enough calories from food intake, the patient utilizes the released fat as fuel. Some patients release more than 3000 calories daily during this process, resulting in a fat loss of up to a pound or more each day. HCG also acts as a potent appetite suppressant, so adaptation to the low calorie diet is much easier. The thousands of fat calories released each day as fuel also contribute to appetite suppression. The skin elasticity enhancement effect helps to avoid loose skin, often associated with rapid weight loss. HCG is a prescription medication and no non-prescription forms are effective. It is only made for use by injection and use subcutaneously (just under the skin) is quite effective for this purpose. HCG prescriptions must be “non-compounded” and filled in the United States. All HCG drops, especially “homeopathic HCG drops” are worthless and illegal. Topical creams and other frequently marketed forms of HCG do not work.

The 75+% long term success rate stems from: 1) Total body cleansing and detoxification that clears the system of chemicals that affect our metabolism and sugar/carbohydrate cravings. 2) The sparing of muscle and only losing fat. This sustains our fat “burning engine” by maintaining muscle mass. Extreme calorie restriction without HCG burns muscle and organ tissue also. 3) Our HCG 12-week protocol includes a six-week 1,200 calorie transition phase. This enables patients to maintain, and frequently, further, their fat loss long term. It includes only fresh food, water and brewed green tea. Toxins are fully eliminated and the “metabolic thermostat” in the Hypothalamus continues to be reset at a lower caloric requirement (without old cravings).

A thorough “pre-program” medical evaluation, including extensive lab blood tests, is essential to safety and success. Only physicians experienced in the use of HCG for weight loss are qualified to perform this evaluation.

The FDA has not approved of HCG for weight loss purposes, so a doctor can only use it for weight loss if he considers this process necessary for the well-being of the patient. Doctors are required to act in the best interest of their patients, so medications are frequently prescribed for “non FDA approved” uses.

Pregnant women produce in excess of 300,000 international units of HCG daily in the second and third trimester. Proper HCG weight loss requires only a couple hundred units daily. The nutrition, though low in calories, is very healthy. The “Simeon Protocol” (“Pounds and Inches”) was written in 1970 and based on research done in the 1950’s and 1960’s. It is still used by many physicians today, but it is outdated and no longer optimal.

PCOS patients can also utilize HCG to lose fat rapidly. However, PCOS treatment must first be optimized and the HCG Weight Loss Protocol must be properly modified, as even our “standard protocol” is not ideal for PCOS patients otherwise.

HCG HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY OR WEIGHT CONTROL. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT HCG INCREASES WEIGHT LOSS BEYOND THAT RESULTING FROM CALORIC RESTRICTION THAT IT CAUSES A MORE ATTRACTIVE OR ‘NORMAL’ DISTRIBUTION OF FAT, OR THAT IT DECREASES THE HUNGER AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH CALORIE-RESTRICTIVE DIETS.
